New Worker Orientation Program

WorkSafeBC introduced new requirements on employee training to Part 3 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, entitled “Young or New Workers.” The additional requirements were effective July 26, 2007. The amendment requires that any worker new to the employer’s workplace must receive an orientation specific to that workplace before commencing work. A new worker is defined as an employee new to a location or an employee who may be affected by changes in that location. Employers must document all the orientation and training provided to each employee.

Training

A complete selection of training programs approved by WorkSafeBC to satisfy regulatory requirements to train health and safety worker representatives has been developed and is available for loan to school districts. Assistance in providing the training is also available on request. In addition to training in specific health and safety topics provided as part of BCPSEA events during the year, we provide district-specific health and safety training to school districts on request.
